order strawberries or buy plants?when?

Hello, full of questions. We are starting a huge strawberry bed, what is better...ordering tons of dried up little things in the mail or spending a ton more on the plants? Which do better? Anything special I should add besides a lot of compost?

I think the plants do best. You can purchase bare root and save some money that way. I think that is what you mean when you say 'dried up little things in the mail'. If you prepare them properly they do just fine. Here's some info on growing strawberries that might help you to decide.

Are there any local nurseries around your place Garden Girl?

I started a bunch of plants by seed last year and bought a bunch from a local nusery and they all turned out great. I was lucky and found ten for ten dollars or something like that.

Wasn't much difference as far as I could see.

As far as mail ordering, seems to work but, I always like to encourage people to support their local small businesses.
