Spots on Japanese Maple

Does anyone know what these spots are on my Japanese Maple? Also, do some red jm's turn green through the summer? Mine did last year. I've never seen a tree go from red to green.

Also, can anyone tell which variety I have by the leaf?

Some varieties of JM's do turn green in the summer and then back to red for fall color. Light intensity may affect that, but not in any consistent way - some varieties are more red in sun, other varieties are more red in shade.

Maybe someone knows JM's well enough to ID yours - there are 1000 or so varieties. Your leaf is pretty distinctive, though.

I don't know about the spots. My JM leaves start out beautiful and dark red in the spring. Through the summer they sort of fade out a bit and get some pale spots like that. Some people say it is sunburn, but my JM doesn't get very much direct sun. There are leaf spot diseases of JM's. It may be that our JM's have that, but if so, it seems to be mainly a cosmetic issue, which does not damage the tree and the next year's leaves start out fine.
