Hi herb :D

I think he has sold you the wrong one.
Normally after 2/3 years they turn a lovely glossy black. Prior to that they should have black patches at least on the stems. The only stems that will be green are the new ones that sprout from the clump and they turn black pretty quick.

Hi herb
How are you? I still have your home address somewhere :D

We have two different kind of balck bamboo.
One is called nita krochiku, hon kuro chiku. Nitakurochi is useless in Japanese garden. nita means "look like" first two years or so green color then chenge color to blackish . Hon kurochiku/ hon means truly. first yearcane will be black . This is kind of back bamboo you see in Japanese garden.
I had nita kurochiku before, but cut dwon all of it.
Sorry I can't provide you botanical name .
