Pyrancantha roots

Does anybody know if a Pyrancantha (or Firethorn) can live if the main root has been broken? We were doing some remodeling around the house and the root got severely bent, and possibly broken...

How well developed are the secondary roots? How thick?

DH and I had an in-ground Pyracantha in Berkeley, but our battle was keeping it in bounds....

About 2". I have kept the plant itself fairly small (6-7' tall). It was very strong this summer, but the workers who did the remodel said the trunk was quite weak.

Hi
It is late to respond
When root(s) are dameged, cut roots clean. Leaving wounded roots take long time to heal , invitation to many other problems.
Prune some branchs which reduce amount of water loss from leave, and spray wax may be also should consider.
Only one or two main root are dameged but rest of roots are heathly, then Your pyracantha will be ok. light feeding of fertilizer also help.
