here is a tip for thick moss on rocks:
drill holes or craters to hold moisture and provide moisture rich shady environment. the ground dew and mist helps that. tree cover and some grass cover will be a natural habitat or improvised shade and regular watering/misting. Keep the snails and slugs off the moss!!!

Hi all
quick and 100% sure way to grow moss
1) find sheet of moss you like in your nighborhood, scrape off carefull .
remove some soil if any . if you can find moss on rock works well.
2) buy coaking, black or brown in color, latex or other kind. both works
well. Rock and moss have to dry.( Black or brown blend color you won't see it)
3) Find place you like to grow on rock, upside down moss and apply
coaking useing caoking gun. place moss on rock and pressure gently.
Do not water until coaking dry. wait few hours then You can water.
I tryied many other ways. but coaking is far better than any other
method.
After two years or so, new moss start grow on rock it's self. if you are
intrested I can write old way to grow moss on rock or stone lantern. but
coaking works better than old school method of Japan.
