Yes, I do. Just common ginger bought for an Asian meal and left over. Placed the tuber in potting soil, just below the surface. Very easy to grow, here in zone 8 goes dormant in the winter, has to be placed in a protected location. Mine has been kept both in the house and in the greenhouse during the winter. Grows outside spring through late fall.

Thanks for the info, I am going to try that . Sounds simple enough. Will it grow in a large container?

You could start it out in just about any sized container of a half gallon or more. I have mine growing in either three or four gallon containers and during dormancy generally pull the tubers, divide them, and replant in fresh potting mix. Some perlite mixed in the bottom third of the container would be helpful to keep the soil from getting overly wet.

Hi
Are you thinking of ginger roots for food or as plant ?
If you are thinking of ginger as food this is how.

1) Ginger like well drain soil. so raised bed is sugested.
seed ginger/plnat
pick fresh ginger from busy orental food store or any other food
store. ( Trader joe in mind) some ginger roots are new crop some are more mature
ginger roots. pick ginger which has firm and have healhty "eye"
(new growth are coming out). don't pick ginger do not have many
eyes.
2) when you cut gindger into small peices , not cut too close to eye.
after cut ginger , let's wound dry day or two at well air circulating
place but not under full sun.

3) place ginger 3 to 4 inch part. 2/3 thd of tuber under soil. not completly
under soil, Later you can dress siol lightly over tuber.
mulch soil with pine straw, wheat straw etc , what ever you
can find localy is fine.

If you like to have frsh, tender new ginger, it will take three month or less
fresh ginger shoot is good friend of cold beer.
fresh ginder is tipical summer food for Japanese.

Enjoy gardening.
