Skunks

A neighbor just came over and while chit chatting he told me if you spray a skunk with water it will not spray. A few weeks ago I caught a skunk in a raccoon trap and it let it be known it was not happy. Wondering if anyone else has heard of spraying a skunk with water to stop it from spraying or has any experience. I would hate to get sprayed by a skunk while I was hosing the guy down.

Hi, I'm guessing that you still have the skunk trapped? and you are trying to release it without getting sprayed. I have never heard of someone spraying water on a skunk. I'm guessing that it might still spray you. Your best option is getting a large towel ( one that you can throw away if you have to.) and placing it over the majority of the cage with the door still accessible. That way the skunk will not be able to see you moving toward the trap. Then slowly open the door, they usually do not run out, so you should have plenty of time to move away, sometimes they will not even leave the trap until dark. Here is a link about releasing skunks! Hope this helps!

The skunk is no longer in the trap, so I am thinking of the future.

Thanks Marlin, I love that idea:-) He lives 1/4 mile from me and since he loves to go on walks, he can easily walk over and take care of the skunk.
