My hummingbirds (LOTS of pics)

Wed Sep 01, 2010 4:00 pm

BewilderedGreenyO.o asked for some pics of my hummingbirds nest in this thread.

Sorry it took so long but here are few shots of mainly my back yard nest I only have 2. They have mellowed out a bit lately but a few weeks ago there might be 10 - 20 of them buzzing back and forth fighting for food or just whatever it seemed. They are so great to watch. I sit in a chair about 10 feet from the feeder and took most of these with them flying all over quite a few times they would hover just a few feet from me and see what I was doing that is cool, I'm talking like sometimes about 2 feet from me. It's not odd to have 2-3 buzz right past my head even closer than that. They sure are fast, that is one reason it took so long to get some good pics. They are hard to capture on film since they are so fast and don't stay still for more than 30 sec at the very longest. I took hundreds of shots and a good portion of those were blank because they would be gone before the pic took or just real blurry.

But here are some pretty good shots, enjoy.

Dono

P.S. I hope this isn't too much. For those with dial up who wish to view these pics check out my Photobucket page here.

Hope you enjoy some of these are really awesome some not so great. But I not a professional photographer, so they are what they are.

Great hummingbird photos! Being on the coast I noticed we don't get too many here unfortunately. I plant plenty of nectar plants for them so its not lack of food from my garden. Just love hummingbirds, one of my favorites.

Thanks for all the thanks. :P

Yes I just love them they are very cool to watch. They have slowed down here lately but a few weeks ago for a couple of weeks they would go through the one in that back in a day  it hold a little over 2 cups of food. I had to let it go a few times cause I was making a new batch of food every other day. It was really insane, when I say there might have been 20+ at one time flying around the immediate vicinity I am not kidding one bit. It almost got to the point you didn't want to go out there since they were screaming back and forth so much. But in reality is was way cool.

Those are some great pictures, how fast did you have your shutter speed to stop their wings in the picture? The hummingbirds at my feeder are very active this time of year.

Shutter speed? That's funny. I put my camera on the dummy setting and let her rip. Of course tons of then had to be deleted. the good ones were just lucky.

Thanks though. My hummers have slowed down, they were nuts for a while.
