Cardinals At The Window

Does anyone have suggestions on how to keep Cardinals from banging into the windows of our house? This happens every year around this time. Mostly it is a male Cardinal, but sometimes it is a female. The bird will set in the Azalea bush right outside the window and continue to fly into and "bang" the window until we scare it away - but then comes right back. Sometimes the bird will stand on the window ledge and "peck" on the window. They do this to the same 3 windows.

You can buy this sprinkler called a scarecrow that shoots a jet of water at any animal that crosses the sprinklers path. Just place it ouutside your window and the cardinal will be squirted with water anytime it comes near you house.

We have had a blackbird do that to our window once as well. Sometimes hitting the window so hard, we thought he would come through.
Later, when asking a vet, they said that when he saw his reflection in the window, he probably thought he was seeing another bird in the window, and was trying to reach it. They thought it was most likely a male who had lost it's mate.
Maybe put something over the window for a couple of days so he can't see his reflection might work.

Totally agree. This is a reflection issue rather than a behavioral one...
