Red Maple Tree

I have a small red maple tree that I would like to keep small; when is the best time to prune it? Thanks for any replies.

The best time to do heavy prunning is in late winter before the tree starts to leaf and bloom but when the plant isn't frozen. You can do light prunning pretty much anytime but its best not to do any prunning you don't have too after about midsummer. It may spur alot of new growth that doesn't have time to harden off before winter. It will be hard to keep a red maple small. They usually grow fairly quick once established to about 30ft, after that they slow down and broaden out.
