help my willow please!

I planted a japanese fantail pussy willow. it looked good when I bought it. it seemed to be ok for about 6 weeks and then over night it tuned brown. I watered for the most part. I left it in place with the hopes that the roots are ok. any suggestions?
thanks!

How often did you water it and what type of fertilizer did you use?

Willows are famous rooters and not shy about water either. I don't like the blue fertilizer as all the recommended dosages are just a step shy of deadly and I 'm not sure about that last step either... :(

Cut the dead brown stems off (scratch the bark first to check; if it's still green leave it...). Could help the bottom that's trying to support dead tissue...

Let us know; okay?
