Reviving shrub stump

This is my first post after registering. I'm clearing an overgrown area on the edge of my property and discovered a stump with a tag attached. It's a flowering almond shrub. There didn't seem to be any recent growth. This morning I removed it from the ground and placed it in some water. Upon further examination there seems to be some life in it, but I'm not 100% sure. What's the best way to try to revive this?

marklev,
Simply replant it where it can stay undisturbed. Firm in well and thoroughly water to settle the soil around the roots. And wait. It will let you know in due course what it wants to do.

just scratch a bit of bark off and see if its green undernieth but if the barks to thick just replant as stated.
