Pruning of mulberry tree

I've got a young mulberry tree, about 8 ft tall. It is growing like a tree but I would prefer if it had denser foliage like a bush. Is it advisable to prune it, or would this weaken the tree? Is there a particular way a mulberry tree is supposed to be pruned?

Best time to prune is in the fall and trees should be selectively pruned and fetilized once in the fall. Denser foliage generally comes with a shrub, because they stay small.
