Hornbeam hedge

I have a 5 year hornbeam hedge that hasn't reached its full height but it's looking a bit stragley. Should I trim it at this stage? I don't want to stunt its height but I do want it to be bushier.

Yes, it needs regular pruning or it will be a tree instead of a hedge.

be sure you prune it wider at the bottom. Otherwise the tops shade out the bottom branches and they get bare:
