Way to Slow Down Progress of Dutch Elm Disease?

ok, so I went against what everyone said and planted an American elm 3 years ago, because that is the tree I wanted. basically for the purpose of having a host for morel mushrooms. and well here it is 3 years later and I believe I am seeing the beginning stages of dutch elm disease.

now I know there is no cure, but is there anyway to slow down the progression of this disease? and how can I know for sure if that is in fact what is afflicting my young tree?

its about 7 ft tall and seems healthy overall, but random leaves seem to die. its fairly evenly spread. its not any one entire branch its just a leaf here and there. a would guess it is affecting 5 to 10 percent of the leaves.

from my understanding DED usually will affect an entire branch at a time.
