crepe myrtle that was nearly destroyed

I have a crepe myrtle that was pretty much destroyed by my dog. I was waiting to see if it would somehow grow back, and it is growing some sort of new buds on the remaining areas of the trunk. My question is will this crepe myrtle ever get big again, and is there anything I can do to help it grow healthy again? It now has a barrier around it so my dog cannot chew on it. I am including photos, too. Thanks!

Mark

You can salvage your Crepe Myrtle but it will never be a specimen tree. Take those straps off of the trunks. If the 2 larger trunks are rubbing together you need to remove 1. Remove the chewed up tops. Use sharp, bypass snips to cut below the chewed up tops but just above a leaf node. Give it a year or 2.

Post more photos after you trim off the tops and you have more side growth.

Good luck
