Dracaena trunk/stalk turning black

Hello!

One of the trunks of my Dracaena (Dracaena Lisa, I believe) is turning black (see pictures). It started when a few of the stalk's bottom leaves started browning. I removed those leaves and I only water when the soil dries as I've been instructed. Two of the other shorter stalks in the pot are perfectly healthy.

What is happening & What do I do?

Thanks in advance!!

It is rotting. cut below the rot until you get good wood with no signs of brown. You can try to save the part of the plant above where it has turned black. You will have to cut the stem with a clean knife and see if the tissue above it is still healthy and not brown. Dry the stem to callus it off a day or two and then place it in a pot with moist potting soil and keep the soil moist but not water logged. You may get lucky and the top will send out new roots.

The way we propagate dracena is to take 4 inch cuttings and stick them in a shallow tray of peat moss. They actually root better in the light. When they have rooted they get transplanted into pots.
