Hello. I have a tree that was in my yard when we bought our home. I think it might be a cherry tree of some sort because the little fruits that grow on it look like cherries, but I'm not sure. They shrivel up quickly and don't stay long, if that helps. It is not a large tree and is maybe only 10 or 12 feet tall.
Anyway, my problem is that there is something that grows around the base of the tree and I'm not sure what it is or how to handle it. It looks unappealing and just looks like a weed or something that overtakes the base of the tree. I have tried to pull them out but they usually rip at the soil level and don't come out with any roots. I have also just cut them. I am not sure if they are tree suckers growing from the actual tree or if they are something else growing around the tree. I don't want to damage the tree, but if they aren't supposed to be there I don't want the tree to be hindered by whatever it is either. Any info or guidance on this subject is greatly appreciated.
