strange growth on maple

A maple tree is loosing its leaves, and I noticed this growth coming off one of the branches.

The leaves are thick and round - not mapley.
What is it?

Is it a mistletoe? A little hard to see....

Ah, very interesting, thanks. Ive always seen those "balls" of leaves up in the trees all winter, but had no idea they were mistletoe.

if you are building a cottage business of selling mistletoe this might be a good thing. If not, its not.
