Holly propagation.
Hello ~ Please can any member of this forum advise me how to propagate from a holly and also the best time to carry out the task. Ideally I am hoping it is possible to do it from cuttings but I just don't know if this is possible. Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Mars,
Hardwood cuttings are an extremely easy prorogation technique.
Take a cutting about the diameter of a pencil. Remove leaves. Cut the bottom at a 45 degree angle. Cut the top square. Your cutting should be 6" to 8" long. The top of your cutting should be just below a leaf node. The bottom should be just above a leaf node.
Use 3/4 to 1 gallon nursery pots. You can get them free from your local big box store if you make friends with the Nursery Specialist. No pot saucers.
Use all purpose potting soil - not fertilized.
You can use Root Tone if your want. It is not necessary. Plant one cutting per pot. Water at least once daily - keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy.
It will take about 2 months for your cutting to develop a root system. When the root system is established you will see leaf growth.
Good luck
