Shrub fungus?? PICTURES INCLUDED

I saw fungus in mulch before and have always scooped it away with a shovel. I have never saw any kind of fungus on shrubs before. Any idea of an easy way to get rid of it? Or get rid of it permanently?

Oh WOW!

-- did it rain last night? I think this is slime mold.

You don't have to worry about fungus in mulch. They are just part of the natural process of breaking down woody material. If they bother you, rake them in.

If this is slime mold, all that should just turn brown or black and dry up in a day or two, but I suppose you could also use hard jets of water from the hose to get them off the shrub. I doubt that it is actually parasitizing the plant though -- just a convenient surface for them to grow on.
