DH transplanted a purpleleaf sandcherry in July. It was very hot that day and he didn't do a very good job digging around the roots before he took it out of the ground. I planted it in its new spot anyway thinking it would probably die. It started wilting so I cut it back from 5 ft. to about 2 ft. There hasn't been any new growth on it since it's been transplanted but the remaining leaves aren't wilted, and it seems to be firmly held in the ground. Should I believe this tree may be alive or is it just totally dead and I don't realize it?

I wouldn't give up on it yet as these are very sturdy plants. I have cut several down to the ground because they were so overgrown when we moved here and they sent up new shoots in a few weeks and tons come spring. Also when you move a plant it will be busy making new roots before it puts on new growth
