Hedge for windy area 9wind break)

Hello I'm new in this forum and I hope I'm in the right place. I would like to find out of a suitable hedge/windbreak for a very windy place. We stay in Cape Town and the south easter blows really hard. I thought of planting tall cyprus trees quite close together but am not to sure if that is the right path to go. I don't want the hedge too tall in places +- 1.2m in other places 3-4m.
Any suggestions?
