Willow fence

I have a plan in the back of my head (it's very crowded back there!) to plant a living, woven willow fence in my yard. I've seen plenty of them in the UK, but not so many here in the US and none where I live in zone 4 Western Mass. There are plenty of willow cultivars that would be hardy here, so I'm not sure why they're not more common. Anyone out there have any experience or insights to share before I get lost in the morass of information and misinformation that's out there on the web?

If I had-ta guess withy fences are the off season projects of middle ages. MA has only been settled for like 400 years, give things another 600 years or so to catch up.
