Mystery tree/shrub - need help identifying!

I have a tree/possibly big shrub in my front yard. I have not been able to identify it. I took some pictures hoping someone else could assist me.

Thanks so much in advance!

It looks like an ash tree to me.

It's not an ash... the bark is much smoother and I believe it gets brilliant white flowers. I have never seen anything like it.

Does it flower before the leaves appear or as they are developing in the Spring?
If so could be a Magnolia and if the flowers are pure white, large and open right out with lots of thin petals then stellata would be the variety.
