Help with identifying this 'bush'

I think this is some kind of 'spirea' but not sure ... live in Colorado and this 'bush' has never bloomed (I always 'cut back' all the bushes in my backyard in the fall and didn't do it this time) ... it is taller than me (I'm 5'5) and the leaves turn a brownish burgundy in the summer. Thank you for any replies :)

Thanks valley - I have to be careful what I cut - have lived here over 11 years and find something new each year :)

It doesn't seem to have the right foliage for spirea. Looks a bit like prunus virginiana aka chokecherry. Look for small red fruits when the flowers fade.
