too late in year to plant weeping cherry?

We just purchased a weeping cherry from a nursery liquidation sale and don't know much about it. We basically bought it because we have always loved the shape and it was really cheap. I read they should be planted in spring - given that it is almost July are we better off leaving it in the pot it came in through the winter? The tree is about 6 feet tall and the pot is about 18''. We live in Seattle so lots of rain and moderate temperatures. Also, do they do best in sun or part shade? Thanks!

It is almost always easier to keep plants alive in the ground than it is in pots. As long as you are in a position to keep it watered I see no reason not to plant it now. Full sun if possible or very light shade.
Which species and cultivar is it?
