Back for another ID...

 I thought I was done figuring out what all of my plants were, but I found another... This one is right on my side of our property line, and I have no clue what it is or what to do with it. Here's a little info:

My parents bought the house next door to us. I thought this thing was theirs, but it's not. Lucky us! We don't particularly care for it, but this spring, it did flower (missed most of the blooms for this picture though). The flowers were mostly white but seemed to turn to yellow - or maybe they were yellow and white... In the winter, it gets red flowers and berries - really nice. My father chopped it down to about 3' tall right after they moved in - about 1 1/2 years ago. It was growing all wild and crazy, kind of like it is now. Not sure if there are thorns on it or not, but I remember the branches were pricking me. He butchered it so bad, we saw no red flowers this past winter and almost no berries - we were tempted to just dig it up and be done with it! It's picked up a lot of steam this spring, and is filling in nicely. By the way, that is some dusty miller inside of that ugly metal tree ring that my father decided to plant - it's getting crowded out, I may have to get rid of the ring and the dusty miller if this thing will spread. Oh happy day!!!

I just need to know what it is, so I can care for it properly (pruning, fertilizing...) It is close to the street (well maybe 5' away), and you can see the edge of my daffodil bed right below it (on a slope) with daylillies there. It gets full sun, zone 7 (but I've used different zone finders and some say 8 - go figure :? ) It's about 5-6 foot tall right now. If I remember correctly, it did lose it's leaves over winter...

Thanks for any help!!!

Christine

Looks like honeysuckle (Lonicera) flowers. Are you sure it is a shrub and not a climber that has been cut often enough to thicken up and stand? If not there are honeysuckle shrubs but I don't recognise this one.

Jess - I am SO impressed!!! I do think you are correct - red rum honeysuckle shrub seems like it! I didn't think anyone would be able to tell, cause it looks like such a mess!! Glad I could get the flowers in the picture- the description that I found for it match almost exactly - no mention of red flowers though, but I may be mistaken and they are just leaves turning red or I may be remmebering the berries...

Thank you again for ALL of your help (with all of my ID's)!!!

:D I am just glad I could help.
Trust me there are a lot more useful things I am not so good at. (paperwork, housework, remembering birthdays) I would much rather spend my time talking plants.
I have never come across this shrub form before. Sounds like a tough all round good doer. I will now file it in my brain for future reference.
Post pics when you have tidied it up. Would be nice to see what it should look like.
