Help, I nicked the Redbud Sapling

While mowing I got too close to my redbud and skinned the bark. :
It peeled the bark layer, leaving a flap about 2x3".

I immediately wrapped it with tree wrap.
Should I do anything else? Will it be okay?

Hi bug :D

Take the tree wrap off. Not a good idea as it may speed up infection by reducing airflow, a bit like taking a plaster off to let a wound dry out.

Get a sharp knife and tidy up any ragged edges to the bark so the wound is neat as the tree will build a callus around the wound to stop any infection spreading into healthy tissue. Do not use any tree wound dressings as research has found that this actually slows the trees natural healing process down.

You are very welcome. Wish I could grow one but alas my garden is full to overflowing. I need more land! :D
