pruning old spirea

I believe it is called Bridal Vail. I am wondering if I should treat it like a syringa and take out the older "trunks". There are about 50 stalks to this behemoth. Should I prune to let light in? The ends of the branches have a few inches of dead twig and it did not bloom very well this year. I like to leave it in the kinda weeping shape.
Thanks

Hi again :D

Yes to everything you said. Do this every year when it has finished flowering as it produces blooms on the new growth from this year next year.
