I have slash pines all over the property. I was told NOT to cut down the tree till it was long dead and gone. I don't know if this is an old wives tale or not. but I have some with apparent beetle infestation.
Anyone ever hear of this? I guess it must have to do with the beetle still in the tree and when cutting down while still there can cause damage to other trees as it falls? as opposed to letting the little buggers move off on their own.
I have 8 trees that have just died. and /or in the process. All within feet of each other...and its hurricane season. I want to cut them down now. but I also have another stand of pine trees (still healthy and no sign of beetles) that they would fall near and worry that I would be killing them inadvertantly.
The darn beetles are killing everything. I have cut down approx. 8-10 trees a year.... it't so very frustrating. You all don't have any ideas on how to make the beetles go away?
