Robellini Palms in NJ

I am looking for information on upkeep of Robellini Palms. I purchased a 6 ft. tree last week. My husband planted it in our yard and I am concerned about maintenance and upkeep. Any suggestions on fertilizer, pruning, and watering would be greatly appreciated. I've read a bunch of different things, who's right? Next, what is the best way to preserve the palm for the Jersey Shore winters? The garden center told us to tie-up the frons with twine and rap the entire tree with 2 layers of burlap. Is this the best way? Will it survive the cold northeast winter? I know its early summer, but my husband likes to plan ahead.

If your husband likes to plan ahead, he might have thought about the winter issue before planting it like that. It is not cold hardy.

Phoenix roebelenii can tolerate cold down to 15F* and can be grown in states like Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Oregon and Texas.

Phoeix Robellini is great to use in the colder climates as a summer annual. During the winter, these palms should brought inside.

It apparently does well in containers and can be brought in for the winter, but you will need huge containers and probably a plant dolly for moving them around.

*Other places said to 20 degrees or zone 9. You are probably in zone 6, well outside its tolerance
