How to prune a lilac
Does anyone have advice on how to prune a lilac into more of a tree shape? Is it easier to do this with certain types of lilacs?

Syringa reticulata, the Japanese Tree Lilac, might be what you are looking for. These are white flowering and the scent is a little different from that of Syringa vulgaris but they are a true tree of about twenty feet in height. I have never attempted to prune S. vulgaris or the hybrids into a single trunked tree form but I have doubts that this would produce good results.
