Privacy trees in MinneSNOWta - help!?

First off, thank you so much for reading this.... :)

We are looking at buying a house which is in a woodsy neighborhood. The odd part is that the house is kinda close to the road (the other houses are back further).

I've included a link to the image below.....

What kind of trees/shrubs would be the best for my part of the world? Ridiculously hot in summer, frigid in winter. I want trees/shrubs that are going to be great for privacy, but also not 'out of place' when passing by.

We are a military family, so budget is somewhat of an issue, as well.

Thanks in advance!
Lisa

P.S. I may have to bend your ears about Cecil Brunner roses, too! :D

Typically when people are thinking about privacy screens, they are thinking evergreen. Otherwise your screen kind of disappears in winter.

Colorado Blue Spruce and White Fir are a couple evergreens that should do well in your zone 4 climate.
