Tree from LA

Sorry for new thread, but somehow I was not be able to add new post in ''what is this tee'' thread again... :/ (I'm still newbie here :oops:)


Well, I have friend in LA, also like plants, trees... and he send me a picture of one unusual tree, and I can't recognize it... :( :( ...because nothing like that grow here... so, any help is appreciated... thank you !

Yeah I hope so!

It have unusual fruits... as I can see...
...and bark is like some kind of mixture willow and maple...

...ah it killing me when I don't know something... ! -helpsos-

So you are asking about the bare deciduous one in the background? If so maybe you will get lucky and someone will be able to identify it that way, since it does have unusual fruits (nuts? seed pods? do you know they are fruit?) But it is generally pretty difficult to ID plants without seeing the leaves.

Post a picture again when it has leaves.

We are visiting Palm Springs right now and have been doing some desert hiking and visiting gardens. Could it be a type of Palo Verde?

Ok I have a theory... after lot of research... I figure it out...
...that his tree on image can be young
Cotton tree - Ceiba pentandra !

...has the same seminal pods...
...arrangement of branches...
...little spikes at the branching... down there... its hard to see on picture... but they are there...
...I think that the tree is wild and not cultivar...

...what do you think?

...if someone have better theory...

It's definitely Ceiba pentandra. Interesting that they follow the exact same deciduous period even in the southern hemisphere - they're bare down here right now as well, even though it's summertime and raining!
