Akebia transplant?
Has anyone been successful in transplanting one of these monsters? It seems like such a hardy plant, but have read they don't transplant well. It doesn't make sense to me.

It has been a while for me, but the reason why so many had problems is that they've taken shortcuts when transplanting. Trim it back to 12" then dig a trench around it to see how far the roots have spread first which depends how long it has been in the ground. I'd say dig at least a 36" diameter ring so you can see the roots and how large they are then shave off the soil as the roots get larger. Prune any roots then pop it up and transplant and make certain you amend the soil and throw in some bone meal. Water at least twice a week until new growth appears.
