Snow Damage-Lost Half of Rose of Sharon-Need Advice

We have a giant, mature Rose of Sharon which was about 15 ft. in diameter and height. Last week a wet snow split the shrub in half and broke the 6 inch diameter branches off the trunk base just below ground. We had to chain saw them off at ground level. They are still semi attached to the trunk and their roots. I'm wondering if I should leave them alone or if it would be better to dig them out and remove them?

The plant will come back and start over again and since you see the damage firsthand then do what you beleive is necessary but don't waste your time digging out the snow just wait until it is gone. However when the ground thaws I would suggest that you dig a trench around the plant and backfill with cow manure and fertilizer because I doubt very much there is little nutirents in the ground.
