How to prune small crape myrtle?

I have a small crape myrtle (3' or a little taller) I want it to grow like a tree , so How should I prune it so it grows taller instead of wider ?

Be aware that standard form is not it's natural shape, which is a large shrub, so you will have to constantly maintain it to keep it that way.
