This is what the flowers look like first, then as they are "going by" they darken and the blue berries appear.

I don't know, but it will help you get better answers if you would post a couple more pictures, showing the leaves and how they branch (are they in opposing pairs or alternating) and the whole shrub with its shape. How big is this shrub? What part of the world are you in?

This is a photo in a yard in the North East earlier in the year...a friend of mine's house. You can see that it likes where it is cause it has produced another smaller shrub down in front of it next to the butterfly bush.

North East as in New York State.

I'm not certain, but could it be Rose glory bower (Clerodendrum bungei)? It's also known as Mexicali Rose.

It's definitely a clerodendrum. I think it's Clerodendrum trichotomum] sometimes called Glory Bower as are so many other plants.

I am glad you posted because I learned or re-learned something about the plant and ordered the only one that will grow in NC, trichotomum, from VA. Thanks again.

@bullthistle....Glad it helped you also....that is what I love about gardening...I'm always learning whether it be from hands on experience, or from the shared knowledge of others.

This is a new one for me. Wish I could grow it here in KY. Very nice looking shrub.

Why do you think you can't grow it in KY? The clerodendrum trichotomum that bullthistle mentioned is rated for zones 7,8,9 but I think would survive where you are in zone 6a, edge of 7, with winter protection. It just might die back some in the winter.

The one pictured, unknown var., is apparently growing in NY state, much harsher conditions than Lexington!

You're right, with some winter protection I would probably be okay. I have just found that I have so many plants that I am beginning to stick with what grows here with-out special attention. God knows I have been through a lot of cash pushing the envelope, but I might give this one a try anyway. I worked at a specialty nursery for 5 years that really strives to bring in the unusual plants and had never gotten this one. I wonder if it blooms on old or new wood?

The clerodendrum trichotomum bloom reminds me of the Heptacodium bloom. It looks like, from the picture, that another has either been planted in the foreground or has reseeded. I wonder if it is a big reseeder?

Just noticed the text under the pic.. I guess it does move around a bit.
