Pittosporum and ph

I planted 6 Pittosporum Undulatums last fall in a partially shaded area of my yard (OK according to the Sunset garden book). They are vigorous and green but have not gotten any new growth this year. I have watered and fertilized them regularly. Checked the soil Ph today - it is about 6.2-6.4. Is this too acidic and should I be adding lime? Also I understand that adding Epson salt around the base of roses is supposed to promote growth. Does this work for other plants as well?

Hey carmeljacques. Your ph does seem slightly low. Most plants want the ph to be
between 6.5 and 7.0. If you live in So. Ca., go ahead and lime. If you live in No. Ca.,
wait until Spring when it will start to really grow again.
I don't recommend Epsom salts for every plant; only if there is a magnesium deficiency.
I only put Epsom salts on roses in the spring. They really benefit from a one-time application.
I hope this helps. Take care.
