Winter Watering

For newly transplanted trees (one will have been planted for about 8 months, the others for about 3 months), how often do you water them during the winter? I'm in Houston, so it will get below freezing maybe a dozen times during the winter. Do I even need to water them, assuming our drought doesn't continue through the winter?

Don't think that's a question that can be answered in the abstract like that.

Depends very much on the kind of tree, some trees need a lot more water than others, as well as the amount of rain, freezing etc.

If the tree is deciduous and goes dormant for the winter and stays that way, not growing, does not need much water while dormant. If you get rain in winter that is probably sufficient.

Any tree that stays green all winter needs more water.
