Are these trees?

We have a patch of weeds in the yard that I am pulling out and planting. I just want to make sure that none of these are trees before I yank them out! If they are trees, I would like to keep them! If they are just weeds they can be tugged out like the rest. Anyone have any ideas what these are?

1 and 3 look like some kind of maple tree. Well, 3 could be Red Maple....
2 looks like Rose of Sharon? Do you have one nearby?
4 looks like one I'm letting grow because I haven't figured out what it is yet....

Agree that 1 and 3 are baby maples. I don't know the others, but I'm not thinking they are trees or shrubs. 2 isn't looking very Rose of Sharon ish to me. Compare the stems on the baby maples to the others and you will see even at this young age, trees have tougher, less soft and green stems than non-woody plants.

Well my Father-in-law stopped over yesterday. The ones you guys ID'd as some kind of Maple he said was a Box Elder tree (a type of maple) and the other little tree that popped up in the yard last year, that is now taller than I am is a Cottonwood poplar. I looked them both up and he's spot on! The other plants that I photographed in this thread weren't trees. Thanks everyone!
