Help with my Rose of Sharon please

My ROS started to leaf out a couple months ago and it still looks the same, the leaves are green but they look like they did a month ago? Upon examining a did see a split on the trunk it look superficial not too deep but nonetheless a split. Any ideas? Thanks!

The plant is stressed and if we get a bad winter you will have to replace it next year. Splits are usually a death kneal.
