new growth problems on windmill palm

I have a windmill palm, planted last fall, has been doing ok and putting out new growth all winter, but now i just noticed most recent new growth is looking dead as it is trying to emerge. very woody.

it survived through the winter, and is now working to sustain itself against steady winds this spring.

My palm lives in Central Texas.

Does anyone know why the new growth is not healthy?[/url]
I love gardening results, need help with the process!

The odds are great that you were not careful in planting your palm by not tamping down the backfill leaving air holes which will dry out a plant faster then not watering. Get the end of your shovel and tamp down the soil all around the plant then water then tamp down the soil again, then water every other day for two weeks then twice a week. It may be too late.
