My mother-in-law has a Magnolia tree in her yard. There are lots of little trees growing up from the exposed roots, and even a few growing up where the roots are not exposed, but still near the trunk of the parent tree.
What I'm wondering is how I can remove these little trees, and replant in my own yard, or in pots.

You can dig up the one's that are not growing from the exposed roots in the fall or winter but just make certain you get plenty of roots and water yes, even during the winter if moisture content is low. I find it easier to plant in pots when transplanting because I seem to take of them better then if I replant in the soil but everyone is different.
