Feeling Sappy

We inherited many mature trees when we bought our house, most of them pine trees of some sort. One pine tree had a bit of pruning done years before (we knew the previous owners). Ever since, it has been spewing sap from its wounds. It looks like the tree is vomiting all over itself! I tried cleaning out the old sap and spraying the wound with pruning spray, but that didn't work. Any suggestions?
