Beauty Bush

I have a Beauty Bush that I highly treasure. But, it is looking unwell right now. A couple of years ago a bird must of dropped a honeysuckle seed close by and at first I waS okay with it but the Honeysuckle I think has taken up the nutrients in the area and so a sick beauty bush. I have cut back the HOneysuckle and will have to get someone to remove the main stem and roots for me. So, since the beauty bush has finished flowering I thought I would cut it back and let it send up new brances and start again. Anyone got any experience doing this? I have done this with my Pussywillow and Lilac with great success.
Thanks for reading

I trimmed my beauty bushes about 2 weeks ago and they seem to be doing fine but they are quite a few yrs old I would say 5 or 6 yrs at least
