Elder Transplanting

Hi all.. newbie here...

I live in a well shaded generaly moist area and 2 days ago I dug up 3 Elder trees (Sambucus canadensis).

They all had really long "taproots" and I took care to get it all. The location was along a railroad grade that was also moist. Of course now I have some pretty good wilting going on. These plants are about 4 feet tall so they weren't small saplings.

I need some good advice as to what to do to pep them up a bit.. I.e. trim off a bunch of leaves? what should I do?

Thanks.. April
