shrub removal

ok so I'm clearing out a landing in my backyard, I would say its 80ft by 25ft. I removed all the bushes with my trimmer but I know they will grow back(I did it a year ago by hand and came back because I didnt know what to do after). so my question is how do I kill alot of roots in one go, I was thinking of using a tarp to cover them all so no water or sun gets to them but that will only eliminate growth, but whats the most efficient way of removing a lot of these things.

thanks hope you can help

Use stump rot after drilling holes in the stumps.
