Trimming a Rose of Sharon Shrub

Howdy,
I have a ROS shrub(purple flowers)and it's very compacted and dense and I want to thin it out for good air flow, how do I do this and what branches can I safely cut?

Thanks :)

It's Hybiscus Syracens, or something like that

*looks it up on the Internet*

I was close:

hibiscus syriacus.

Anyway...
Just cut wherever you think it needs it. Hibiscus in general are pretty hardy, so whatever looks right to you should be fine. :)

This is where using the latin botanical names make things so much clearer. 'Rose of Sharon' here in the UK is the common name for Hypericum! :?
